Hi guys,

Any recommendations for campsites in these areas with a camper trailer? We're looking to do a trip for a few weeks in April with 2 x young kids (under 4). Toilets and water supply preferred but not required. We have a Rav4, so can do gravel but not take the trailer off road. Some nice easy walks from the campsite would be good as well.

We've done a lot of bushwalking in the region in a previous life (i.e. pre-kids!) but are not familiar with car-access areas. We have the priceless camping guide, etc but are not sure of which site given the huge range available!

Thanks,

Tristan

There is a great camp area (no dogs) at Shannon, 70 klm from Wapole on the SW Hwy. there are flushing toilets and hot showers (if someone lights the boilers)

Snotty Gobble Loop campsite is not far from Pemberton on the Pemberton-Nannup road (Vasse Highway?). It has good camp sites and a toilet block. You can walk down to a small stream and there are bush walks nor far away close to the Donnelly River Boat Ramp. I can't remember the name of the road but it is the one which gose to the Donnelly Rover Boat Ramp. The turn-off is just near the Donnelly river bridge (on the Pemberton side) and the camp site is not far along this road on the right hand side.

If you prefer the Karri forest and no flush loos showers - then "discrete" camping alongside the warren river is allowed, on the heartbreak - maidenbush trail within the warren national park.

The sites described above on the Boat landing road back onto fly brook from memory, and the turnoff is about 1 Km north of Karri Valley resort, as stated the campsites are on the right and named after some of the local trees - ergo snotty gobble = persoonia longifolia... the fruiting green berris are edible (not the hard seed inside) when brown/ripe and taste a little soapy IMHO. Tree distinguishable by its long thin drooping leaves & deep red paper bark like bark...and the green berries that turn brown when ripe to eat, red tailed black cockatoos love them.

Woudn't eat any of the plants unless you know your botany well - theres heartleaf locally that containes monosodium-flouroacetate (1080 poison) for which there is no know antidote and the manner of death is particularly gruesome, definitely bad tucker for belly - leaf distinguishable by the heart shape to the bottom of the leaf.

Theres a few trout in the Fly brook and Donnely River it drains into at the end of the boat landing road and a tour boat that runs daily trips to the river mouth and back..from the landing there.

Very scenic down there, no roads in, and boats the only way to the river mouth.

If you elect to camp on th Warren river it contains redfn perch and trout..

All spots are pretty, the Karris along the Warren probably take the cake tho over the boat landing road sites which are more jarrah marri trees than Karri.

Wherever you go it's likely to be busy if holiday season although By April it slows down a tad!

Cheers & good luck.
