got one of these for xmas. i got it just for city street navigation aware it is unlikely it can do much more
(i do have a laptop ozi garmin etrex etc which i use for moving map)

however just in case i am underutilizing it - can you
- put better offroad maps on?
- conect it to a laptop in place of my etrex (it gets way better signal way quicker than the etrex 2001 technology vs 2008)

You can load additional maps,

You'll need Mapsource or similar to load it onto the unit.

Tracks 4 Australia is a free mapset, but doesn't have routing or a names database.

OZ Topo V 2.1 is coming soon from Garmin at $229.00 and you can find out about it on this forum.

You'll also find info on T4A as well

I Believe so, Mine is a 250W which is one of the earlier of the Nuvi series.

Just check before you buy it though to make sure.

You can download T4A from the website I mentioned above but you have to join first.

"conect it to a laptop in place of my etrex (it gets way better signal way quicker than the etrex 2001 technology vs 2008)"

Hello - dont think this is possible as they dont have NMEA output required for moving map. If you have real issue with quality of data from your current laptop setup and need cheap solution you should possibly consider current crop of usb type gps mouse.

Cheers
