Hi,

I have a 2002 GU diesel ute. I've notice the rear diff bushes on the front trailing arms are splitting around the inner bush. That's the bushes just behind the front diff on the trailing arm. It appears that the inner bush has broken away from the rubber.Well it looks like that's what it is, it's to hard of course to see exactly.

I recall it happened on my GQ as well and I just left it. Is this common, do they really need changing or just keep an eye on them?

These bushes are "metalistic" and depend on the bond between the steel inner and bush for correct operation.
Seeing the bond is gone they will become sloppy and allow the axle to rotate on acceleration and braking.
It can cause vibration due to unequal UJ angles.
