Fuel at Kunawarritji

Hope I got the spelling right...
As you can read in my other thread I plan to do the CSR next year. So I wonder how I can get fuel at K... Do I have to book it, or do they always have plenty on stock? If I have to book, how much in advance? Maybe someone's got a number for me as well. Cheers.

..........and $3.20/l last July. Ouch!! So beprepared to pay an extra few cents.

They had both diesel from the pump and ULP from drums. Closed for lunch though, had to wait an hour for service, ring and find out what times they open, published times on maps and reality where two different things in a number of remote communities.

Hi Tommyboy,

Yeap, that sounds right. Fuel at $3.20 LT and after our first vehicle was fuelled; we had a lunch break for 80 minutes. The shop has some basics and we bought some souvenirs. They have showers available for around $5.00 per person which was very nice. I have a Nissan Patrol 3.0LT/TD and used 176LT from Wiluna. This included some side trips etc. I would ring ahead and confirm fuel availability but they said they were prepared for this year.

Happy travels

Hi Tommyboy,
I have started planning for this years trip that is going to take in some sections of the Canning. The Capricorn Roadhouse have an upgraded truck for this season, and there was no fuel drop during 2008, for the fuel drop at well 23. The lady that I spoke to said the final price has not yet been worked out, but would be no dearer than $550 for the 200 litre drum - or $2.75 a litre. Something else for you to have a look at. They will need full payment and about 6 weeks notice prior to your expected date at well 23.

Cheers

Hey Stephen,

yeah, I've already read somewhere in this forum, that they resume service this year. But I didn't actually know that it is the Capricorn that delivers the fuel. You don't have any number of them, do you?
I think I'll have problems with the payment in advance. As I still have to buy my 4WD at my arrival in Australia, I can't be 100% shure whether I get a reasonably well maintained vehicle (which I should be, if I pay §550!). Cause otherwise I won't be able to do the trip...:-(

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom,
When I contacted the Capricorn Roadhouse in Newman about 6 weeks ago, the lady said that they are the ones that deliver the fuel out to well 23. They have purchased a bigger truck for the coming season in 2009. All payments must be made in advance via Credit Card and at lease 6 weeks to your intended arrival at well 23. Their contact phone number is (08) 9175 1535.
If you are travelling alone, your vehicles must be in 100% mechanical condition, with special attention to the shockers, as they will get a real work out on the Canning in parts. I would also advise taking a Satellite phone as an emergency item. The vehicle should also have a UHF radio. Apart from speaking to other vehicles along the way, you will be able also hear if vehicles if vehicles are coming your way.
There are many things that give me the s..ts, unprepared outback travellers, no backup fuel and no communications. I could not tell you how many times out in the desert where other vehicles have had no radios and travelling in convoy - it does not make sense.

Cheers

Stephen

No worries, I won't be one of the unprepared travellers. My shopping list has already reached the bottom of the 2nd page...
Besides UHF I'll take a SPOT with me (fascinating new technology...)

Cheers
