We have ust had to replace firstly our caravan battery charger, and now some weeks later the battery.
What is the general consensus about charging a new battery. I have heard that we should plug into 240 volt every month and charge for a day or so.
Your expert knowledge would be appreciated.

I would recommend a maintenance charger to be left on the battery. The once a month charge can still allow some build up of sulphation.

Connect it to a (good) 3 stage charger when not in use and you will not have to do anything else

I would install a load cutout box. so if the voltage goes below say 10.5 volts the load is dropped off. But you don't go into the van you say, but only to get a bottle of sauce when you run out in the kitchen etc. Lights on an off over a period of time can lower the battery voltage.
Agree with above on using a maintenance charger, but would get a unit that blasts out 14.4 volts or so every so often to remove the sulphate buildup. One that does it automatically.
My unit I have to switch it over to do this, can only do it twice a month and have to monitor the SG of the battery over a three hour period.... All to hard.

Someone should have asked what is the charger that you have just replaced as if it is a good charge and maintain unit then why would you want to buy anything just plug it in and let it do its job as Mainey stated nothing else needed.
