Hi all
I bought a Hema Navigator recently, using the route 66 is straight forward enough. Are you supposed to be able to load the maps from the SD card onto the PC? When I put the card into the card reader it comes up with a message "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". I was also keen to be able to load wayoints from the PC onto the GPS but can't find how. I don't know if I am doing something wrong as this is the first GPS I have owned. Should you be able to connect the GPS to the PC using the USB lead, because all I have been able to do with it is charge up the battery on the GPS.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Ive had a Hema Navigator for about 6 months and Im still learning how it works, but I have picked up a few things.
I have copied all the maps from the sd card onto my pc using a card reader. I found a card reader to be faster at transfering data then using the cable. The pc had no trouble reading the sd card seeing it as just another external storage device.
I also loaded scanned maps onto the sd card which have been calabrated with Oziexplorer for use on the gps. Im playing around with loading Google maps on the card at the moment with good results.
Im not sure why your having a problem, but what your trying to do is possible because Im doing it.
I surgest you check your card reader, maybe thats the problem.

Thanks Steve
Sounds like it should do what Im trying, I think the card reader is O.K. because it reads the SD out of the camera O.K. I'm wondering if it is some sort of pc issue as it doesn't recognise a device when the usb lead is connected to the GPS, but the usb port works for the camera.

Could be a drive conflict Go to Control panel/administative tools/ Computer management. Then to disk management. Look at the drives you have and it will tell you whats there. The camera is probably being recognised as a drive if u use the same USB port for it each time and if u switch to the GPS in the same port it may give a conflict. Try connecting your card reader in a different USB port.

Had a Dell with this problem and just changed all drive letters except C to w,x,y,z. Then hooked up stuff we were having probs with and it fixed it . Then you can just change the letters back to where you want them.

Worth a try anyway.

You may also have got a disc with the navigator which you should install as most of these things require drivers or a program to connect them to the PC
EG if you have a Nokia phone you use a supplied program call Nokia PC Suiteo connect it to your PC

There were some very cheap GPSs recently on one of the discount on line shops, running Route 66. I was a bit sus about if the software would be any good in the outback. Any feedback on Route 66?

From what I understand Route 66 is a streetmapper only and not a very good one at that
