Just had a nice weekend camping at Euroka Clearing- just near Glenbrook NSW. It's a NPWS area. No amentities apart from long drop dunnys and fire places. Beautiful area and great for kids. Wildlife abounds and heaps of birds. Some good east bushwalks and nice drive to lookouts and other features.
Highly recommended !!

Did you do the walk down to the river?

Were there many tourist coaches coming in and out or was it quiet?

Cheers

Just a few tourist mini buses.

Do you mean the Jack Evans track down to the water? That's a real good workout for the legs!

We used to take scouts to Euroka for weekend camps. It's a beautiful place and so close to the city.

Magic spot alright, Signman.

As I grew up in that area, used to walk out there regularly, & often camped there with my parents. After the firetrails were put in, it was no worry to ride a bike out there, and later drive out.

My parents used to camp there regularly before, and after the war, so it is part of our family history. Both my parents' ashes have been scattered there, on the eastern end of the clearing.

When we went out there to scattter my Mother's ashes, at the spot indicated by my Dad, and where they used to camp, was close to a set of toilets. I protested that the spot was close to the amenities. Dad's reply was: "There were no bloody toilets when we used camp here!" A bit of humour at an otherwise sad time.

Have rarely been back over the past 20 years, but at least the Rangers would be keeping it tidy.

We used to swim in many different places in Glenbrook Ck. and there were Death Adders there as big as you'd see anywhere else in Australia. Never got bitten, but did nearly step on a couple.

Life was lot different there, back in the 50's & 60's

Regards,
Bob.

Sounds a great spot Signman, how do you get to it?
I would be interested in having a day out to see it with the idea of taking the grandkids for a camp.

Just call in at the Glenbrook visitors centre- just west of penrith. They will give you a map and directions.
Enjoy !!!

G'day signman
I was wondering if you were still kicking LOL
Long time no see. I was thinking just last night that I must ring you to touch base again.

Euroka is a lovely spot IF not too crowded, I used to camp on Appletree flats many times when the kids were younger.

Here is a Goggle earth image for the folks.
