We have just put in an order for our new caravan, an Off-road Goldstream Sovereign. Worst thing about it is we have to wait until April to take delivery :-( We have the option of interior and exterior protection, supplied by Vantech. Is there anybody out there that has had their van 'vanteched' and if so is it worth the money?

Mark,

We didn't on our Goldstream but we always put the flys up to protect the canvas. I did speak to a guy that has had 2 Goldstreams and he swears by the Vantech protection. Our curtains have a few red dust stains here and there but other than that they are built with good quality material and this is ultimately why we didn't bother. Word of warning though with the Goldstream, check the warranty with regards to the cables and the associated pulleys and winches as these are not covered as I have recently found out and we are now facing a hefty bill due to their recent failure.

Thanks Goona for your comments. How long have you had your Goldstream for? And what probs have you had with your cables and pulleys?

Cheers

It has just gone 2 years and I am talking Just. It appears the cables have just snapped but at this stage I am getting it looked at and we will see the results and what will happen from there.

interesting... we had the winch replaced (their choice) after it fell apart in the Kimberly however it was within 12mths. Had it fixed in Broome but got the factory to re-check it whilst it was in for some other maintenance & modifications and they decided to replace it. They also replaced the trim at the bottom of the fridge (my fault... I stepped on it) without me asking.

It was ready when they said it would be so I was very happy with their "customer service".

The Trade Practices Act means that suppliers can't just say "there's no warranty".

Hi,

We didn't go down the track when we brought our Goldstream from Kratzmans in Brisbane and we ended up getting all of the interior upholstery scotchgard treated and it has been very good.

Aside from the dollars I just didn't find the argument for the outside treatment to be very strong. I also had a bad experience years ago with MING treatment on a car I had so I am probably a bit uneasy about this stuff.

Enjoy your Goldstream as they are great.

Cheaper (MUCH) to go to local supermarket and buy a few cans of Scotchguard and do the job yourself. Read instructions on can, then anyone can do it.

we did the "couple of cans of Scotchguard" too. We just did the seating cushions... what else is there inside do to, maybe the curtains as well.

I've had a few cars that have had various treatments (inc Ming) and I'm a 'believer' that they do protect the car if you also treat it right (no automatic car washs, always clean bird poo off quickly etc) but, unless you keep the vehicle for a long time, all you're doing is paying for the next owner to get a nice unit!

I agree with most of the posters.
Get some Scotchgard for the upholstery .
The Vantec treatment to the exterior is a plus.
Having worked in a dealers yard we could pick the vans that hdd been treated when they came in for a service. The exterior hadn't aged as much as the untreated vans.
Bloody dear though.
ozjohn.
PS We had our treated on the exterior.
