Saw in super cheap the other day a product for cleaning your MAF sensor. CRC brand or similar?? Anyway was about $25 for a spray can of the stuff. Have you used it? Do you know anything about it? Is it just a can of air?

The Pajero MAF is about $800 so don't really wanna just 'give it a go'

Cheers Stefan

It probably white spirit, X55 or similar, something that leaves no residue. Michael

I wonder how CRC contact cleaner would go? Leaves no residue and even removes fingerprints. It is mainly used on pcb boards.

Its what I used to use on my GU 3.0TD MAF. Very noticeable performance difference after the first clean - but did it regularly after that so no marked improvement later on.

Cheers

A bit off topic but I also clean the throttle and clutch cables on my bike with it to get the crud out. Sadly the 4.2tdi does not have a MAF sensor :)). Heard of a lot of issues using oiled filters etc causing problems with the sensor.

"Very noticeable performance difference after the first clean "

Thats the plan Captain, after some reading on the pajero forum, they reckon you will not know your own car after you do it the first time.

Yeah , its probably just a rebadged can of contact cleaner, or trico.

I always clean my MAF at every service, and do the throttle body and air bypass valve at the same time, quick and easy to do them all at once and keeps it running like new.

The basic "hot wire" MAF reads the change in resistance across the wire due to the cooling effect of the airflow, so keep it clean and it will read correctly. Dont be scared to give it a go.

Hi Stefan ,

Isopropyl Alcohol leaves no residue when dry and cleans all the crap off , use a soft bristle brush or a syringe .

Takes a while to dry though, if you cant do it with compressed air.

Would have to get a few litres for $25 ?

Glenn.

Just a bit cautious of 'touching' the wires. With my luck I would snap one for sure!

On the Patrol the sensing elements are a flat plate and a small rod about the thickness of the centre of a disposable pen ( the ink part ) , other types I have seen have the wire inside a glass bulb.

Not sure what te mighty Paj has ,but you would like to think it would be a little robust to sit in the airflow .

Yep exactly, its one of the oldest tricks of marketing, create a "specialist" product and charge a premium over "generic" products.

I once worked for an oil company and they were magic at it, same batch packed out into numerous different products, from the basic to the specialist.
They did it with detergents too, the same product was everything from general purpose cleaner to floor and tile cleaner to hotplate cleaner and even food grade cleaning product.

I would be highly surprised if its not CRC contact cleaner inside the can.
