G'day all, is a nuvi 760 adaptable for marine use & has anyone done this & used it as such? I have had an old Garmin map 175 for 8 or 9 years with a marine chart in it that I have used in the bush as
well as to sea, works great - maybe the Nuvi will be as good. see ya, aussiedingo

Technically a GPS should work anywhere as it locks on to satellites and transfers its position to the software which displays it in various forms depending on it software.
So the answers is Probably if you can get the correct software to do what you want
Doug T will know no doubt.

Thanks Graham, yes it's the software I need to know about (charts) On the garmin site it only goes to the 660 in marine, I am hoping it just hasn't been updated to the 760 on their page, regards,

Hi Toyotabits
I am currently experimenting with Garmin Bluechart maps and Garmin Mobile PC and XT which runs the same operating system as the Nuvi's. Bluechart maps will show up, but do not display as they do in Mapsource or nRoute and are missing some key elements like contour range colours. The link The Explorer supplies above shows exactly what I am talking about in the post/pictures by Nev. I have spoken directly to Garmin and JA GPS and they have both indicated that this new Nuvi/Mobile PC/XT operating system (actually embedded Linux I think) is not compatable with the older Bluechart products, but will work with G2 and G2 Vision marine charts (only available on special Sd cards from Garmin).
Lots on the web about people having a go with the Nuvi for different maps. If you want a specialist Marine Nuvi have a look at the 500 - it is waterproof, but needs G2 Vision charts. Pity they are so expensive with the Charts nearly as dear as the unit.
Cheers
A
