Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone knew where I can get the old fashion garden rake with a screw in handle from. Have been looking on net but don't seem to be coming up with one.
It would be a lot easier to carry in van and car. Have seen the folding aluminium ones at shows but looking for the something that removes the rocks or stones from ground before I put ground cover down. What do others use for raking out the site.
Cheers

I see Willem has the Rugged Tool Roll(shovel, axe, mallet, etc)
listed in his extensive list of things carried in the GQ.
This would do the trick for you as
well as have a few other uses.
Cheers Kev

You really need a reasonably heavy plastic (yep plastic) lawn rake with long tines.
This will move twigs, stones etc without pulling up every immovable object that catches in the tines of a common garden rake.
Consider cutting the long handle down to the minimum length you think you could work with, and add an aluminium or pvc pipe about 20cm long to the end of that to add the last bit to if you need it.
The connection can be made with a split pin or any thing you like - even thread the wooden hole and use a metal thread.

I must admit I've never heard of a screw in type handle/rake head. The only things that comes to mind is a paint roller extendable handle, mainly cause I've been using one a lot lately, and the other being a window cleaner pole but not sure if they are screw or clip in.

Are these the plastic ones Shaker or the old iron ones. Went down on weekend and couldn't see any. Will have to go back for better look.

Thanks for your info guys. Thought as we had the screw in handle long shovel I might be able to get a rake. Good idea to use the PVC as extension. Will have a look at the rugged roll also.
Thanks

We have an aluminium fold-down rake RTB, which has the handle which telescopes into itself but also the tines close up like an umbrella. With tines closed and handle extended, I find I can scoop up and hoy any dangerous rocks, stones or twigs and, with the ability to open the tines to different extensions, it is all we need to clear any camping site barring the odd prickly bush, which we have to cut down, of course. Murphy's law says that any prickly bush left standing will be stumbled into in the dark by the person with the most piercing scream and whole towns will be air-raid alerted by the screams that follow.
I am presently using the rake along with a child size shovel, to pick up all the b@%$dy mangoes falling off our trees at the moment and can pick up three full grown, not half eaten fruit, at a time. I am thinking of taking up golf as I have learned how to swing the rake in such a manner as to scoop up a mango and hoy it into the wheel barrow in one motion.
Sheila.

Hi red tail Black,
I made my own.
I got a quality metal rake with wooden handle, chopped off the metal pipe from the rake head IE the bit into which the handle goes.Welded a nut onto the rake head and a long bolt to the pipe on the handle. The handle screws in and out easily.
While I had the welder out I welded a bit of flat bar along the top of the rake head and use that to flatten out the dirt or push the rocks around.
It works a treat.
cheers
Phil

Thanks for to all the
information.
Phil love your idea as bother in-law will weld bolt on. Like the idea of flat back on rake.Once he's finished putting my dash back into the troopy I will get him onto.
Thanks everyone
