Afternoon all, looking at getting another 80 series just for towing my 6.5m boat. Having never had a petrol or even been in one for that matter, are they a capable towing vehicle? My other 80 is a 1hz with aftermarket turbo unfortunatley it gets hot during a long tow (It is a 5 hour tow to the coast from
home) but is too good to get rid of and not ready to upgrade to a newer factory td 100. The cost of petrol 80's is very reasonable now and the missus can use it for run around instead of the 5ltr fairlane. I am not overly concerned with fuel economy just want a capable tow vehicle.
Cheers

80 series 4.5 will pull a 6.5 m boat easily.

I have a 17'' 6" caravan and have been around
the block three times with it. It will more than capable of towing at 100kph for extended periods. You did say that you were not worried about fuel consumption. My son-in-laws father had a 100 ser diesel and when towing his boat just could not keep up with me through hilly country. GO FOR IT.

Towed a lot with my old petrol 80 and they are a capable tow vehicle. Towed vansd and covered trailers around 2+tonnes and towed 5.8-6.2 mtr boats no problems. Fuel use if staying on 100kph regularly 26ltrs/100km and as high as 29

As others have said, a very capable towing vehicle, have never had any overheating troubles with
mine. They are pretty good buying at the moment I reckon. You will get a really
well set up one for less than 10K.
Glad you're not worried about fuel consumption though.
Matt.
