Same here...I just got a member message and couldn't work out what it was all about. I looked up the thread and it dated back to 2006!
I dind't create the thread or have a reply in it. Wierd.
Anyway, I have been trying to get back into the member message but it's gone and I can't seem to locate anyway of finding it again...
Oh
well, must be a server issue we're all getting them.

My messages were all ones i hadn't seen - because i didn't know they were there. Not as far back as 2006 though - just December last year onwards.
Usually a member message stays for something like two days after you have read it before disappearing.

Hi Mrs Hen,
I had a similar experience about three weeks ago - I had five unanswered messages in my inbox.
I contacted the owners and complained that the new system of the tiny flshing envelope was hopeless . I was told that they were "looking into it".
I am glad we have the pop up again,
Cheers,
Willie.

Hi Motherhen
I (we?) used to get a pop up message when you logged on to say "you have a new member message"
This doesnt seem to work anymore as last week a member sent me a message and the only way I knew was that he posted the advice to me in a post on the
forum that he had sent me a mm...had he not done that then I would not have received it or gone looking for it.......
what I did notice was a very tiny symbol flashing in the top right hand corner near the search bar...utterly useless for notification of messages and I am sure many people will be missing that..
maybe other members or David can explain why the message alert feature is no longer poping up...hopefully they will restore it like it was.
cheers

I'd missed my Christmas mail! No doubt David didn't know the notification wasn't working and we didn't know we had messages. He must have just discovered and fixed it.

I agree that the new blinking envelope icon is difficult to see, especially in amongst all the other things that are going round and round and blinking and winking at you.
I much prefer the old MM icon that we had.
I received a MM tonight, and the little box came up in the middle of my screen to say that I had a new MM. First time I have seen that for a long time.
I have also had problems with sending a copy of my MM to my email addy too. I have reported this though.

G'day Ladies and Gents,
I emailed David about the lack of a popup last week and today a popup appeared directing me to the little envelope.
It all worked very
well.
Maybe this influx of "lost in space" messages may have something to do with adjusting the system.

Motherhen,
I recognise you as a loyal, stoic, medium term member of David and Michelle's site, and as such I offer the following:
I'm ( apparently), a raving ratbag, and thought it was just my luddite attitude that set me apart from the EO Programmers, what with all the advertising, bells'n whistles and nonsense.
But I do wonder why the Sentry remains asleep at his post. Have not the alarms been sounded?
The last time I broached this subject, I seem to recall that a Goose (called himself 'Seven'?), got stuck into me about finances, and the need for D&M to make a quid.
(I offered to pay his
membership....sigh, how times change.)
I can only hope that that Gentleman has since forsaken a bottle of medium quality whisky in deference to
membership of EO.
In short, I feel that the "user friendly" aspect of EO has been usurped by commercialism.
Not unlike the local milk bar of our youth being replaced by the Mc Dollars of our grand children.
Stand by me in court eh,
Jeff H.

Jeff,
How do you expect them to run this site without advertising?
Membership alone won't do it. Currently about 2000 members, equals about $100K in revenue. That wouldn't even go close to paying wages, office rental, server costs etc.
David and Michelle have to live, and this site (their business) is what pays the mortgage and feeds their children.
And from a business perspective (as an advertiser myself) I benefit from having access to be able to advertise on this site. That is to say I put cash in D&M's pocket and in return they indirectly put cash in
mine. That's how the world operates.
Cheers,
Jim.
