howdy,

The alternator on my 60 series died the other day.
I could buy a new one, same size, but perhaps I could install a bigger one which delivers more amps. (winch + other aux.)
Does anybody know a good heavy duty alternator that I can mount on my 12h-t engine?
It needs to be a alternator on which I can fit the vacuum pump.

And another question,
I got the "Diesel 4&6 Cyl" Max Ellery's Factory workshop Manual 1972-1990.
The wiring schematic in there is not realy clear for te 1986 60 series as te image is to small.
Does anybody know where I can find a schematic for an hj61?

Thanks,
Cruiser Crazy

try baxters or pjl electrics they sell 110a alternators. they also used to sell upgraded stators . or find an auto electrical rewinder to rewind the stator

I think I will ask around to get some info on how many amps I can get out of it, if I rewind it.
Goz that way I know for sure I wont be messing arround with the vacuum pump

Be wary of getting it rewound for higher output as we did this on a couple of diesel toyota's back in the 80's.
Yes they gave a higher output at high revs but at idle and low revs (where the older diesels spend most of the time) there was actually less output. We ended up having to get standard s/hand alternators to refit back to normal.
The other way to go is to get an electric vacuum pump and vac tank (behind the front bumper) out of the turbo 7XX series Volvo cars from the wreckers, use that for brake vacuum and fit a standard high output alternator.
Landy owners have been fitting the volvo vac pumps when their very expensive engine driven vac pump bleep s itself.
I have a 740 turbo sedan and the vac pump is still running well after nearly 400k and 22 years so they are pretty good quality.
