Try a boat builder.
They use very good isolation materials around engines.
Build a box with this material in it around the generator with a fresh air intake.
And don't forget to make a heat resistant exhaust ;-)

I too remember seeing the thread. This is a link that was in it Soundproof box from Campertrailers This site has other good ideas as well.

Bought a new Honda EU20i yesterday. Yes it's very quiet, but like most blokes I want to "accessorize" and make it even quieter just to keep the camp noise down to an absolute minimum.

Use an old esky, make sure you vent for air and exhaust.
