Hi,
Could anyone give me advice on a good hand held GPS as I am going to the Kimberly's for an extended period.
Thanks

Depends on what you want it to do.
If just record a route while you drive, a simple windscreen mounted unit costing about $200 will do. 12 v wiring from a cig lighter socket can be picked up cheaply from ebay, as can the mount.
If you want to have mapping, then step up to a unit with an SD card and be prepared to buy digital maps. This route is rather more costly.
I use a GarminGPSMap 60CS but wish I'd gone for the CS with SD card. That said, I don't really need it as I just use the unit for navigation insurance. And that said again, it's just a complement to a map and compass, not a replacement.
There are several good Oz websites and forums where you can research options to meet your needs.

ExplorOz has a good range of handhelds, click on the
shop tab at the top of page and look for GPS.
