Hey all
Has anyone out there attempted to hard wire their temp gauge on their engel fridge.
So that when plugged in to 240v or 12v and turned on the temp gauge comes on and
displays the cabinet temp instead of having to replace the battery all the time.
If so any ideas on how to achieve this and or a wiring diagram if possible would be excellent

Thanks in advance

Engel have just released in the last month or so a remote unit. The only difference to that of the Two Zone is that you have no probe wire inside of the fridge, just a small sender unit. You place the main body of the thermometer where you want to display and view the inside of the fridges temperature.

Hi Stephen,
You don't happen to have a link to the new Engel wireless fridge temperature sensor unit do you?

Hi Geoff
Any shop that sells Engel products, should sell the new wireless thermometers. They have an RR of under $30 The firsts units that we sold, I thought that they were faulty. Unlike the Two Zone, which you place the batteries in the main unit first, then the batteries in the sender next. The Two Zones sender sends a signal every minute, so you know any changes of temperature, almost immediately.
The Engel only sends a signal every 10 to 15 minutes, giving a lot longer battery life, and likewise, it takes that time for the two units to talk to each other.
There is a picture of them on page 21 of the Engel 2009 Summer catalogue. If you log onto www.engelaustralia.com.au, you can request a catalogue to be sent out to you. If you can't get one, send me a mm with your postal details and I will send one out to you.

Best Regards

Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the Engel web link, I was looking at www.engel.com.au which as you probably know is the Engel Shop site.

I've just requested a catalogue from the link you gave me and the local ARB shop is about 200 metres down the road from work so I should be able to find one fairly quickly!

Thanks,

Geoff

Hi Stephen, you say that the engel sending a message every 10 to 15 minutes prolongs battery life, the instructions say battery life is from 2 to 10 months. The two zone wireless unit batteries last 2 years. I purchased the engel unit cos I couldn't find a two zone one, was a piece of sh.., got a refund and waited for the twozone unit, no comparison. Happy as a pig in poo.

Hi Krakka and Geoff
I have spoken to Engel about their new wireless thermometers. Like I said above, the first 2 that we sold there was some confusion on how they should work. I personally do not like the way that they take to settle down and get a correct reading. I personally have had a Two Zone wireless unit now for nearly 18 months, still with the same batteries, and had no problems with the unit. Also Geoff, when you go down to your local ARB store, check out their new car fridge set up. Looks like that they have given Engel the flick and their new model looks very much like a re badge Waeco?
Why they have taken that course one would never know.

Cheers

G'day all, I have an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer double sided taped in mine, sender in freezer section, the unit in the fridge section - lift the lid to check it out. Otherwise you can doublesided tape the unit outside to read, both work well & cheaper, aussiedingo

Slightly off topic - but

Does anyone know how I can use 2 of the 2 zone units at the same time

I have a fridge 5c (in the back seat of 4x) and a freezer (at rear of 4x) at -6c

I want to use the Engle 2 zone units - have already purchased them but they are both set to transmitt/receive on the same frequency.

So what happens now is that when I bring the receivers togther I get the signal from the strongest sender (freezer - I guess because it is new and has the fresher batteries?) and both receivers show -6c

What I want is to have both receivers alongside each other and show the temp from both fridge units

Hi KiwiAngler
With the Two Zone wireless thermometers, they change their transmit code every time that the batteries are replaced. I think that there are over 10,000 codes, so the chances of having 2 fridges receiving the same signa codel will be extremely low. We tried it out at our shop, one unit in a freezer and the other in a fridge some distance away. Both receiver units worked the way that they should have and received the correct readings, not the same that you are thinking that you will get.

Cheers

Yep, same here. I've got the Waeco version, coming up to 4 years old.
On 24/7/365
Still on the original battery (batteries?).
I can't even remember what type of battery it uses.

Cheers
