G'Day all,
After making use of tricky dicks 'change your mind' guarantee, i swapped my tom tom for the Garmin nuvi 760.
I hear there are new off road maps coming out for it, I dont do a huge amount of serious off road navigation, prob just find the same good
camp spot etc.
Whats best way / software to use to achieve this?
Rgds

Hello
Some free maps around like Shonkymaps
Shonkymaps
based on 250k mapping so detail not best in some but could be Ok for your intended use - what the heck give it a go and see.
Better detail is avialble for a few dollars - GPSOZ produce this mapset
Oztopo v2
Garmin have just released (?) their own version
Garmin Topo forum thread
Not sure if it is actually availble as yet, but if not it must be close. It has advantage over other products mentioned above because it is routable, i.e. it can auto plot a route for you following roads and tracks - the others cant.
Cheers
Greg

Thanks for that Greg,
much appreciated.
The gpsoz one is certainly a few dollars, 229 to be exact, had heard the garmin one was to be about 250, so prob go with the shonky ones just now then if need be upgrade to the garmin ones.
Seems a good unit over tom tom.
just trying to suss it all out at mo, but seems I can only have voice instructions thru the radio, which is ok if your not listening to the radio, thats not quite so good, tom tom can have built in speaker, I'm sure this prob can too just not found out how yet.
Thanks again,
Anyone else who wants to chip in with any 'nuvi newbie' advice, much appreciated. ( I know I can search n troll threads for evermore, but straight up advice is so much better)
Rgds

Ron,
There is also tracks4australia and the Open Source Maps. The guys at gpsaustralia.net have discussion sand links to them all including Shonky.
