We are planning a trip along the south coast of WA. Appreciate any info on current road conditions in the Fitzgerald River National Park - primarily, the track from Hopetoun through to Bremer Bay. We will be driving a Subaru Outback 4WD

Old Mal

This isn't current but whe we did the park back in 05 all the accessible roads were 2wd capable.

Fitzgerald NP has some out of this world flora!

Hi Old Mal,
Most of the roads are 2wd dirt, but if you head west of Hopetoun through the national park, you will really have to revert backnorth to the bitumen and head west till you get to the track south of the rabbit proof fence taking you to either Pt Anne or the mouth of the Fitzgerald. There is a parallel track just south of the bitumen, but it's not worth the effort, as it's only a few kms further north to the black stuff anyway. The track from East Mt Barren through to Twin Bays and the Fitzgerald River mouth is only a walking track and closed off to vehicles beyond the turn into Quoin Head.
For real-time road conditions (closures, flooding, fires, etc) you'd need to ring DEC (CALM) to check. When I came through there in early Dec, the road out to Quoin Head was closed. The road to Fitzgerald River mouth was closed, as I recall. Pt Anne was open, incl tracks through to Bremer Bay.
Nice country
Cheers, Gerry
