Hi all,

was the Mt. Buffalo NP affected by the huge fire in 2006 and where? What will you say is a must to do in the park in October?

Thanks and best regards
Helga

Yes. The Chalet is still there but closed. Cresta was burned down. Parks Vic is running a modest cafe at Dingo Dell.

Must do's? Walks, Lake Catani (has a basic campground), the Horn; watch the hang-gliders take off near the Chalet.

To add: this will give you some idea of what was not burned in 2006:

The NP is alive and well - I don't believe the fires were the reason for the chalet closing, it was closing anyway, just coincedental I believe. Any place two years on after a fire is getting pretty well regenerated, and a lot of the flora will be abundant, as happened in the Grampians - the year following the fires there in 2006 was magic - the grass trees were putting out so many blooms they looked like natures candelabra - and the wildflowers were fantastic.
Walk the plateau, and anything else mentioned in the replies on this site.
