Unfortunatley I have just heard on the news that a young Tasmanian motor cycle rider has died.

He was involved in a head on crash and was riding on the wrong side of the road.

Boo Boo,
I do feel for the youngsters family and the other driver.

This may sound harsh but I do believe crossing un-broken centre lines or rounding a blind corner on the in-correct side of the road should no longer be a traffic offence.

It should be placed under a criminal statute akin to attempted murder. That is really what the "driver" is trying to do.

I have no wish to die at the hands of someone who either cannot control a vehicle at the speed they are "attempting" to "drive" it or they have exceeded the vehicles ability to "handle" the speed it is being driven at.

I agree totally Geoff,
You could add drink driving as well. You go to the pub to drink. If you drink you know if you drive you could kill someone so why isn't it murder. If I load a gun and I fire a it down the main street with my eyes closed and kill someone it's murder/manslaughter, even if I was trying to miss everyone, there is a certain amount of responsibilty that goes with it. When will our pollies get serious about sentencing.

Do we really need a thread here for everyone that dies in an MVA?
It only stirs sad memories for those here that have lost loved ones!

Leave it on the news.

Everyone!!!!!! don't get to cocky, as we all do the wrong thing at sometime, we are just the ones that lived to tell the tale.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn !!!

So happens (according to ABC News) that the rider failed to negotiate a bend and 'drifted' to the wrong side of the road.
Now that's a LOT DIFFERENT to (your statement) 'driving on the wrong side of the road' which implies that motorists in Tasmania regularly drive on the wrong side of the road. Guess we are all guilty of it - when overtaing on single lane carriageways

Sorry DIO - I don't agree with you.

Drifting to the other side of the road, regardless of whether it is as a result of speed, alcohol, drugs, tiredness, inattention, showing off or just not being able to handle the vehicle is SIMPLY WRONG.

It will sooner or later lead to an accident, accidents don't just happen, they are "caused".

I have lived in Tas now for 20+ yrs and the theory of Taswegians driving on the wrong side of the road has a great deal of merit. It happens frequently. I am an MVA survivor, broke my neck in two places as a result of someone else driving on my side of the road for all the wrong reasons.

I too,DETEST these reports and discussions and I am quite agitated as we read and type.

I do believe though, that if we openly discuss this topic and it changes the behaviour of just one lunatic - then, this discussion is a good thing.

We all need to accept responsibility for our own actions as those actions will always have consequences.

I regret that another person has passed on as a result of a Motor Vehicle Accident.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young bloke and I trust they have fond memories to help to them through their grief.

I was coming home from golf one recent saturday around a long curve & a driver intent on suicide came the other way on the incorrect side of the road at high speed. Frightened the bejesus out of me and the stream of traffic in both directions. Why do they do it?
