Had the Cooks Nissan Patrol serviced yesterday, it had done 5190 ks
in just under 7 months, she received a letter reminding her that it
was overdue re: the 6 months service intervals, anyway she drops it
down to the local Nissan Dealership, they kept it for 3 hours, and
done the service, mean while I was working in Brisbane and rang
them up to see what had to be done in the service, Oil Filter,
Oil Change, check all the Fluids ect ect ect, also Rotate and Balance
Tyres, they even washed it, but when I saw the price of the Oil
on the Invoice I thought $79-66 was a bit steep, tell me is that the
normal price for that type of oil, and is it any good,
Now Tojo owners be kind.

Cheers
Daza

Daza

Did they actually mention the type of oil and viscosity? or, did they just say OIL ?

That's about the right price for nearly 9 litres of fully synthetic 5W-30 oil.

I will contact them on Monday to find out more about it, I like to
know whats going into it, I'll also Google it shortly.

Should be OK whatever they are using. They would know the correct oil to use. (at least, one would hope so ;-) )

Hi Daza,

You know how when one has a bad experience, it kinda sticks and you remain forever biased? Well, many years ago now, I tried GTX in my RT Charger (wish I still had it eh...). Every morning, after sitting all night, I would start her up and listen to the most horrible bearing rattle until the oil pressure built up. Never had the problem with the previous brand (Valvoline) and didn't hear it again after changing away from GTX.

Also tried it in a 350 Honda motor bike. Could not get it into gear until the oil warmed up and thinned a bit. Once again, no more issues after draining and moving on to another brand.

I know it was years ago and maybe they are better now (why did they 'invent' Magnatec? was it to stop the oil draining out of everything overnight???). However, I personally would not allow GTX to be put in my ride, no matter what.

Cheers
Gerry

Dont these things hold around 10 litres ?? If so its not that badder price. I pay around $35 for 5 litres of magnatec when its not on special. WHG

The oil is OK but I hope they did not charge you for a wheel balance after only 5000k's. If they needed that I would be sending them back for replacement under warranty .

Hi Daza,

I do my own oil changes and pay about $85 for 10 lt's of Penrite, of which I use about 7 - 7.5 lt's per oil change (depending if I change the filter as well). Based on that, I think you are getting a good deal considering you are buying it via the dealer.

Warren

I Paid less then $100.00 for 20l of gtx 10/30 professional. Now wish i had brought a 10/40 penrite which I consider to be a suprior oil. When I put the penrite15/50 in the Paj it was much smoother.I am not an oil expert but I have noticed people who are all like Penrite.
