We are looking at buying a GPS unit with hema maps on it. What is a good one to buy for going 4x4 travelling.

Di & Mark,
when you say "GPS" what do you intend using the unit for? Is it purely for vehicle navigation or do you intend to use it out of the vehicle as
well, say for walking etc. Your use for the device should very much influence what you would consider purchasing. I use Garmin GPS and two computer map systems (Trackranger and Ozi explorer). I reccommend the Garmin but some Magellan GPS units will specifically load up Hema maps like the Great Desert Series etc giving you both vehicle and hand held functionality.

Yep. So for a handheld unit get one with an SD card facility.
