Hi
On previous visits to your wonderful country, we camped above the banks of the Diamantina River just outside
Birdsville. Is that still possible? Or does one have to
camp in the
campground?
We plan to visit that area around July 11,
Thanks for the help.

To actually stay in
Birdsville you need to use the caravan park. Walking distance to everywhere.
If you stay to the south of the
bridge you are fine. Bit wet at the moment.
Member Ruth will be able to give you up to date info on
Birdsville.

Hi Annette and Frank, if you wish to stay in town itself, as Alan says you must
camp in the caravan park but you are welcome to
camp outside the town area - from the
grid to the racetrack is called the "common" and by July it should be dried out - at the time of writing this it has about 3 metres of water over it and the river has 7.1 metres of water in it. Your
camp along the banks of the river would be great - in a houseboat!
By July things should be nice and green (lots of prickles) and there will still be plenty of water in the river for the fish.
Enjoy your trip.

btw Ruth enjoyed your photos of the dunes and the floods yesterday. Hard to believe that the area is currently in flood.
