If any one is coming to avoca this saturday we have hand held radios and will be on ch. 15 but thats pretty useless because you almost need to be in line of sight for them to work. We will be in a white gu patrol with ARB roofracks. It would be good to meet some new people who enjoy geting off the black stuff. Looks like it will be great day weather wise, hope to see some people there. email me and ill give you my mob. no. thats if they work over there, stupid things.

If you add a full sized set to your equipment Redman you'll have a much greater chance of making contact ... especially in the area you mention as it's fairly flat and repeaters allow much longer range. Also try the local repeaters with yiour handheld as that will increase your range. I was close to the Berwick repeater with mine and spoke easily to friends in Mornington. I also have a GME TX4400 which is a great set. The hand held is very useful though.

Agree absolutely. TX4400 (any GME also) is great, and hand helds are good for walking, guiding vehicles through obstacles etc. Get a 5 watt set as soon as you can!Russell S

Setup a central meeting place and time, like the Info Center in Middle of town, at Xam.

Makes life easier, also swapping mobile #s with others going.

I will be up there early - about 0900, with topo map and one or two other vehicles. Doesn't sound like a lot of people will be there by then, so we're planning to punch straight in as driving around the carpark isn't fun and we have to be back in Werribee by 5pm. We'll have the UHF on Ch 15, so once you're up there you can give us a call if you want - we'll be in there somewhere.... on the Avoca Nth map.Russell S

Great! There's a car park in the middle of the road at the public toilets. That's where we met last time. Look forward to meeting you then.
