The news in WA said this morning that apparently looters had been sifting through the ruins from the fires in Victoria. If true these folk must really be the lowest of all life forms, very hard to believe that people could do such things, when all anybody could possibly think to do is to help. Shocked Kanga.

They should take away everything the looters own in life, sell it and give the money to the victims.
They will soon see what it is like to have nothing.

Sadly these types of people come from within communities, very often the communities they are looting from. Same goes for arsonists. They too often come from within the communities they are setting fires in. There are some very sick people out and about. The sooner an arsonist get LIFE IMPRISONMENT the sooner we might see a reduction in the numbers of fires in the bush.

I'd actually like to see these arsonists ,(after they are caught and proven guilty), be made to sit on their front lawn to watch their own house and everything in it burnt to the ground by a controlled fire. Then taken away for a long stay at the local prison.

Why accommodate them for a long time? Include them in the conflagration too.

When Guilianni (spelling) became mayor of New York he introduced a term Zero Tolerance. If there was a law and you broke it then it was automatic JAIL.

Now he had the jail population increased by some 8000 in the first year but wonder of wonders the crime rate dropped by over 80%
partly because the population did not wish to be thrown in jail so they did not break the law but more because it is the same low life characters who do most of the damage.

No we are not lost but we certainly have to work harder on our 'community conscience' issues.

It is not ok to give your kids lollies, fruit, drinks etc in the supermarket and leave without paying for them

It is not ok to exceed the speed limits, change lanes without indicating or run the red lights .

It is not acceptable to stab, shoot or bash someone for cuting in front of you on the road or taking the parking spot in the car park.

Etc etc.

So where have we, the community, gone wrong and what do we do about it?

For mine the arsonists should be required to serve 12/7 in the burns units for 5 years minimum. No time off for good behaviour.

For looters since they seem to like picking things up - Keep Australia Beautiful clean up duties in the communities where they looted, 12/7 while wearing a suit clearly stateing 'I am a low life thief/looter'- or maybe just shot on sight like they really deserve.

These people are the lowest form of scum put on this earth, they shouldnt be breathing the air they do. Should be introduced to lead poisoning, proven to never reoffend again. Totally unbelievable, as if these people havnt had a hard enough time as it is. There was a lady on the news last night saying as they were fleeing their property some one was flogging stuff from their property. If by the off chance any of them get on this forum all I can say is, YOU are the lowest form of life on this earth, total low life scum, yes scum. Nothing p i s s e s me off more then hearing this sort of news.......... WHG

At this stage its a media report only, and we all know how the media like to sensationalize and headline rumors.

It is more than likely family or friends searching through their homes with someone making a casual comment about looting.
Lots of Police, CFA and military people in those areas so its not so easy to gain access.

Maybe wait and see if the Police can confirm or catch and possible offenders.

John, I too hope that the report I heard is based on inaccurate information and that what you said is correct. Cheers, Kanga1.

John, as you say, media speak. Last night I watched the late news on channel ix. They showed a guy who had lost his lot, poor bloke. Then they went across to the other side of the road saying people are worried about looters. Looting what? There was sweet fa left. They then spoke to man #1' s son. His shed survived. They spoke to him about looters to which he replied "all my stuff is in here. My dirt bikes, my TV & DVD, my ....." . Next thing they are filming inside his shed. HOW STUPID AND IRRESPONSIBLE IS THAT!

Talk about promoting the fact. The media need to lift their game!

While I agree generally with the sentiments expressed re looters
& arsonists, the cold hard truth is that while a few arsonists are charged, next to none are convicted, due to lack of evidence.
The Police & Pollies huff & puff over this, promising action &
increasing fines & jail sentences but the fact remains that it is
unlikley that anyone will be found guilty..........oldbaz.

Very true Baz,

Unless they have an eyewitness how do they prove it?

Forensics may have come a along way but when someone simply uses a cigarette lighter to set some leaves on fire what possible evidence can there be?

Cheers,

Jim.

Report on the Ch. 9 news this evening that it is now believed that not all the fires are the work of arsonists and it actually could possibly be only one ...but ..even one is one to many...

There was a report on Sky News tonight, a Police Officer was saying there has been various reports in the media of looting but absolutely no reports made to police about looting let alone evidence to support those reports.

John, lets hope that the media report you saw is correct, people talk about things and behaviours that are "Un-Australian", looting gear from people like that, well, that really would be un-Australian. Cheers
