I'm interested in the Smartire system. A few years ago I thought I had come up with a novel invention, only to find that these people already had the idea and were selling it :-(
The cost in Australia is $825 for the second generation 4 wheel system.
The first gen. 6 wheel system is $682. Remote display $187.
The current US prices are $229 and $199 and $49 respectively.(AUD $352, $306 and $75). Add 10% GST and freight.
Makes you wonder doesn't it. I won't be buying
mine locally. I don't care how you look at it but that is hwy robbery.Bob

Its a tyre pressure monitoring system with an in cab readout. Little doovers get placed inside the tyres.

Its an electronic tyre monitoring system. There is a sensor in each tyre that transmits a signal to a dash mounted monitor when tyre pressures fall. The idea being that tyres start to deflate before they overheat and fail. I know from bitter personal experience that it is often hard to detect a tyre losing pressure when you are driving on a gravel road until after it has been destroyed.

I had a look at that web address and it showed "where to buy" in North America as a whole lot of tyre companies etc. Exactly what address did you use to be able to get them to send you the Smart Tyre system direct to Aust for that cheap price?

EO, as I said in my post I won't be buying
mine locally. I haven't done it yet. Just looking at the various outlets 5 found an even cheaper one:
http://www.vulcantire.com/smartire_sys.htm. $209 for the second gen kit. I haven't checked all the sites yet but it would appear that they routinely only ship to USA and Canada. Guess I'll just get it shipped to my brother in law who can send or bring it home :-)
