Hi all
I am looking at trading in my Navarra for a Patrol. I once had a 2003 3litre patrol and it was a great car. I was looking at upgrading to a 2006 or 2007 model patrol. When did the common rail models come out and what advantages do they have compared to the older models.
Any Advice apreciated
Cheers Corny

Corny,
The main advantage is they cost about the same to rebuild the engine as the older models.

LOL.

I had one and would never buy another. See if you can find a 4.2 ltr kicking around in good condition.

Much better upgrade.

Cheers

LooK for a 4.2 TD Patrol, they are old technology, and do not go BANG ! Last forever, if you look after them.
The 3.0lt ZD30, be it common rail, or fuel injected has a reputation, and not a good one.

We had a 2003 Navara, great vehicle.. tough as
Both SWMBO and myself loved it "loaded", as it rode not too bad. Empty forget it.. rough as hell, and we both had sore backs.

Took 6 months looking, but eventually got a 2001 Patrol, 4.2 lt TD... Like a limousine to ride in.
Only had 93.k on it and was in very good nick.
Not too much electronics, and I am getting approx 8km/ lt.

The mighty $$$$ dictated to me not to get a 2006 4.2 TD Patrol. For fuel economy, I wish I had.. apparently they deliver 9-10 km/lt..

But I am not complaining, as it only costs me an extra $25 a week to run around, in something that will last for years (I hope)

Cheers
Bucky

Dont buy a 3 litre regardless of your previous experience... You are tempting fate.... Michael

The 2010 patrol will have a new V6 tdi. They are getting rid of the 3 litre.

If you are not in a hurry it might be worth waiting and getting the new one rather than a second hand 3 litre.

According to 4X4 Australia magazine (March issue) it will have a Renault Nissan Alliance 3.0 litre V6 DCI turbo-diesel with output of 198 kw at 4000 rpm and 550nm of torque from 1750 rpm.

If those output figures are correct it will have plenty of power. Hopefully it will be a reliable motor - time will tell.
