I am traveling the York & Eyre peninsula in mid march, has anyone used the ferry between Wallaroo & Lucky Bay. If so how long does the trip take and is it cost affective as to going up to Port Augusta. and then down. Any thoughts

thanks murray

Haven't used the Ferry yet but costs are around the $160 one way per vehicle, last time I looked. Trip takes about 90 minutes? You will probably save a smidgen on fuel going the long way around.

If the fare is about $160 it makes driving look cheaper. The 90 minutes compared to 3 hrs by road is not a concern.
thanks for reply.

All you need to know here
IMO it's not worth it. 2 hours on the ferry, plus the 30 minutes or so you have to be there before departure, plus unloading, plus the 13km drive to Cowell.....means you don't save much time at all.

A car plus 2 adults costs $195.

It also only runs twice a day, so you have to time it right to be in Wallaroo or Lucky Bay at the right time.

The ferry cuts out about 350km from memory, but you miss the best part of the drive....truly spectacular country between Pt. Augusta and Whyalla.

Go by road and see the scenery or else sell the vehicle and buy a boat

At $195 and 3 hrs, driving sound the go as $195 = two tanks and only one required plus extra hour in time.

thanks

Hi Murray,
The trip takes 2 hours between Wallaroo and Lucky Bay. If you book and pay in advance(I think we booked about 1 month) and take the first ferry out, it is half price. We took the ferry one way just to say we did it. Cost and time effective- I do not know, you are off of the road and relaxing for 2 hours.

Cheers

nice pics, ferry looks 1/2 the size of the one at Queenscliff [Vic]. Spencer Gulf must be much calmer.
