Just watched it on the ABC1...Weird situation, the Toyota had winch etc but said he could not get up the hill..

Yet i heard in the background the SES bloke said i just booted it up the hill...I wonder if it was a borrowed 4wd and he did not know how to use the Toyota, winch etc etc properly..

But it would hav been a huge price to pay had a fire been nearby especially what the States been through the last weeks..

Good ending though

Have had similar situations before. A couple walked over an hour to get to our camp asking for help. We drove them up to their stuck car, hopped in, put it in low range & backed it out. All over in 60 seconds :-) Inexperience & a lack of training often leaves people unaware of a vehicles true capabilities.

**Inexperience & a lack of training **

Hiya Craig

John saw the report as well and i think it must have been the above, the son in law or son might have said to his mother/father,yeah take my vehicle it has winch etc etc..(of course what i say is a complete stab in the dark). But it happens more than you think, people lending out 4wd's and the loaner assumes he knows how to use it.
