Trying to find (without success) a suitable map of Australia (or WA) that may show roads and tracks that is suitable for me to use as an electronic map of our travels

The idea is for me to be able to use it to colour in the sections we have done as we travel and then either email or perhaps post on a website for interested friends as we move around

I know I could purchase a map and draw and then photograph roads but not very practical...ideally I could download the base map and then perhaps use a program that allows me to colour in the roads as we move around

tried using google etc without success but that could be me and my seach parameters perhaps not quite knowing what to to type in.

any help in the right direction appreciated

thanks in advance

Many of us here use Oziexplorer software for which there are quite a few digital maps around to record waypoints, routes and plots etc.

Not sure if you saw thread 64592. Few ideas there.

I'd try google maps (create a map in My Maps) or Google Earth.

On this site: go to members; members file swap; checklists and planners
there you will find a file called "Aus highways for basic trip planning"
its a interacive pdf file, you can select different regions or even the Aus map and print to any size you want and it's only 732Kb.

There are a couple of free Australia maps to use with your GPS that include a lot of tracks for 4wds. But I'm not sure that is what you after, but there is a link to the maps here.
