Mrs Bush and I flew into Brisbain for a week on the beach at Mooooloooolooooba a week or so ago.

We came in from the southwest over some beautiful green country between rolling ranges.

One place we flew over intrigued me. It had a car racing track, a go-kart track and one other circuit all in one complex.

Can anyone tell me what town that was? It was only about 10 minutes flying time before landing, just SW of BN.

Earlier on in the flight we had a magnificent view of Wilpena Pound. Just outstanding.

cheers

That would be Willowbank raceway or Queensland raceway.
They host a round of V8 supercars.

hey GB,
like said already it's both Willowbank and Qld Raceway, where the drag racing and V'8 racing is held. to get there you head out of town along Ipswich Rd, then just before Ipswich you turn off onto the Cunningham Hwy and head towards Warick. it's only about 15 - 20 minutes once you've turned off Ipswich Rd to get there.

Hey Gone Bush, that's about an hour from the 'town house'!
Did you have a nice time at the beach?

It's a lovely place Ruthey,

If I could convince Mrs Bush, we would move to QLD and probably live in Maleny. There are some beautiful properties looking over the Glasshouse Mountains. I love it.

We stayed in an apartment block right on the beach at Mooo etc. Internet special $80/night. Walk out the front door to all those restaurants. Just great.

nice to hear from you. Still cut off from the rest of the world?

Very much doubt it's Willobank. That's just up the road from RAAF Amberley and is restricted air space. Commercial flights don't go there.

More likely was either Darlington park or Morwell, south of Brissy. Was it in the middle of a sugar cane area?

I just looked at it on Google Earth, it was certainly Willowbank.

It was on a Sunday when our Defence Forces stand down (the best time to attack Australia) and civil airliners use their airspace without restriction.

When I was coming back from Adelaide the flight path was over the Murray Darling Basin, Inverell, Glenn Innes and straight over Amberley Air Base.

Fair enough. Things have certainly changed since my time then. Only light aircraft used to overfly Amberley, and only after hours. The airspace was then handed over to Brisbane.

That 'other track' is most probably the dirt circuit, like a rallycross track, and good fun. It is just north of the drag strip.

Bob

That would be Greer Park, Its a go-cart track, they did run a couple of rounds of Super Motard there but that got canned as far as I know.
