Anybody know where I can get the programming software for the now superseded 950 series Barrett HF radio. I want to put the new VKS737 frequencies into it & as there are more frequencies coming soon I'd rather not have to send it away multiple times for reprogramming.

You will not legally be able to obtain the progamming software to add or remove frequencies on Barrett equipment due to the communcations regulations regarding that equipment unless you have a licence to maintain that equipment from Barrett Communcitions. The only way you can get the frequencies you require will be to take your set to a licenced dealer who is authorised to carry out such work on Barrett HF radios. That is what Barrett informed me when I had the extra VKS-737 frequencies fitted to my set. Cheers.

Oldfossil,
I have a file from 2004 that is the Barret 950 reprogramming files for Windows 98. Its about 1.2Mb, so I can email it to you if you give me an email address. I've never used it myself, but let me know how you get on, and I'll try it out myself. I'd guess you need an older computer with W98 and a COM port.

Cheers
Phil

I'm not that familiar with Barrett ,but I presume you will need a cable to program the radio as well as the software.

I will be interested on how you go as I need to update my 950 for the two new vks frequencies......

I took mine into a certain dealer and apart from wanting $100 he also was insisting on taking out all the old Telstra, and RFDS frequencies that were no longer in use!

I objected and his reason was they are no longer in use therefore you have no legal right to retain them. (I did have a legal right to have them when I purchased the set from the same dealer who put them in the first place)

My argument was that there was no harm in them staying there.......you never know what / when you might need a frequency.......and it was none of his business...

bottom line was I took the set back off him.........untouched and now i am not sure where / whom to go to next.......dont want anything takin out ...just the two added

Life is a journey, it is not how we fall down, it is how we get up.

Just did a bit of research, you will require the correct programming cable before you can start programming your radios.-Steve

Thanks for sending that program Phil, unfortunately it wasn't what I was looking for. You were obviously given a bumsteer on what this program can do. Its actually a GPS vehicle tracking package suitable for use with the Barrett radio, demo version. Not the Barrett programming software. Thanks for your time and interest though.

Oldfosil,
Bugger! It was a file I downloded from Barrett in 2004, but the filename is misleading :-(((

Richard,
I guess you'll find this out too.

Cheers

HI
I have same set, I will be taking mine to Electric Bug when I get into Adelaide. About $60 to have the updated program installed. They wipe the installed program out and reinstall current software, Simple.
All Big cities have companies that can re program.

Haven't had any luck tracking down the program, so decided to give the radio to a Melbourne Barrett agent after I had discussed with him what I wanted. Left it with him for 2 weeks while I had to go away. It took another 2 weeks and many phone calls before I was told it was ready to be picked up. 350K round trip. A lot of smooth talking finally got me out of the shop with 50% of what I wanted having been done. Cost over $200.00. Can you imagine how happy I was when I installed it turned it on and found it had not been updated to what I asked for. Rang Barrett in WA and explained what my problem was, they were most helpful and after some tests I realised It had to be sent away yet again, This time to Barrett with a quoted price of $100.00 to fix the stuff up by the bloke in Melbourne.( not the first time they have had to fix his handy work) We'll see what happens upon its return. God I hate having to deal with so called experts who wouldn't know if their a**e was on fire.
