Our road conditions were updated yesterday and the information we have is that the desert is CLOSED to all vehicles. That is all parts of the desert have been closed due to rain. Now this is usually only a short duration closure at this time of year however keep you browser pointed at the conditions and as soon as we receive confirmation that it is opened again we will post it. Regards

Am I missing something here. The desert parks bulletin dated yesterday the 15th Aug states the Simpson is open with caution.

The SA Road Conditions were updated on Friday afternoon, Mad Dog Morgan is correct, the Simpson is open with caution.
We haven't been notified of any changes so far this morning.

Bloke who volunteers as a base operator for VKS737 says the Desert Parks Bulletin is probably accurate, BUT the time lag from info at their hand and the web site update can get so long that it can be close to useless advice. If you want the latest, you are better to speak with a local in the tourism game in that region . On the west side, try Adam and Lyn at the Pink Roadhouse 1800 802 074 or Mt Dare roadhouse 08 8670 7835. Not sure who is best on the east side. Desert Parks In SA (1800 816 078 business hrs only !)might give you the ranger's phone number at Dalhousie (Dean Ah-Chee), but catching him can be a snag.

Bloke on the VKS737 network last night at Poeppel's Corner said the French line is more like an undulating highway than anything else - sand is very smooth and firm - too easy he said.Other roads in and out of the region would still probably be quite squishy in parts though. Pay to check prior.Gotta have red sand on those boots !

Hi everyone - the Simpson Desert is now open with caution, there is plenty of mud and water between the sandhills - plenty of people coming out of the Desert today - can't tell what brand of vehicle they are driving, can't even tell if they have registration plates. All have had a brilliant time playing in the mud. This week the Simpson had a big dump of rain (about 1 inch) west of Poepples and about 1 inch of rain east of Poepples. Lots of experience and adventures for those in the middle at the time. Iif you need further information on the Desert and can't get in touch with any of the other places mentioned above in replies you can contact us - road conditions are part of the service we supply - and up to date conditions, hopefully. Walkers Crossing is still closed - they had about 1and half down that way.
Contact us on (07) 46563214 - happy to assist. Beautiful weather now - went from 38 to 10 overnight.
