Howdy all, for some reason I seem to do most of the grocery shopping at
home. SWMBO detests it, I love it, supermarkets are air-coned, great range of products and usually a
young mum or two that catches this ol' pervs eye....hehehe.
As we are stocking up for a short trip in a couple of weeks time, I decided to do the major
shop on the day a 'prominent retailer' was donating the days profit to the Victorian Fire Effort.
Good on them, I thought.
However, back at the
shop last Tuesday, noticed average retail prices up a lot more than normal, over a wide range of goods, goods which havent been on special or reduced previously.
It just got me wondering if this was a business ploy to rake back that days profit, at the same time looking good in the publics eye.
Do you reckon Im getting too cynical in my later years ?
Cheers......Lionel.

Instead of boastng about "helping the farmer", as their advertising for today exclaims, why don't they just pay the farmer a proper price all year round, then they would not have to have a "profit free day" (snicker) today.
I think this "promotion" was to strike back at their major competitor, who did a similar thing last week and sent their profits to the bushfire appeal.
Yes, I am cynical ... and when it comes to the big supermarket/service station owners, I am ABSOLUTELY cynical.

Mate your not alone.
I was only thinking this the other day when I saw them advertising their generosity.
You or I donate to a charity it is 100% tax deductible? A receipt is required.
So the
supermarket chains donate to the Red Cross, X amount of dollars is handed over, " Can I have a receipt for that donation please"
Receipt is handed over at tax time. It is deducted from the tax that is payed.
Therefore that is less money the Government receives in tax. In turn mean less money being being spent on Public works and Hospitals, roads
infrastructure.
On the other hand the super market chain has advertised that they are helping. People believe they CARE and
shop there, the wheel keeps turning.
