I have just bought a Barrett 550 which I want to set up for marine use.

Does any one know where I could acquire the necessary software to make this possible?

Taking or sending the set to a dealer is probably not feasible in this part of the world so any help would be appreciated.

I've looked at the demo software for the 900 series. Unfortunately while the software prints to file it does not appear to address the serial port.

I have the manual including tech drawings for the set so have been able to fabricate a programming lead.

I would really appreciate any help.

Many thanks.

As I have mentioned in a previous post, Barrett software is under copyright so you will not be able to obtain it legally. You will need to take your set to a licenced dealer to have the work done. Cheers

Thanks for your reply.

Barrett is a make not well known in the UK but I'll check with Barrett to see if they have a dealer in this part of the world.

I might be able to direct you to an appropriate place for re-programming...depending upon where you are.

Thanks for your reply.

Barrett is not as well known here ( I'm based in the UK) as it ought to be but I'll check with Barrett to see if they can help.

The 550 software runs on Windows 3.xxx. and a slow computer.

It can present problems if you load it "too quickly" I had to get a new Eprom about $100 plus freight when it was damaged.

Give Barrett a ring in WA and I am sure they will be able to help.

Thanks for your reply.

The 900 software also is written for Windows 3.xx and appears to have been constructed in Visual Basic.

I have Java and Visual Basic programming experience and perhaps I should contact Barrett to see if they want the software updated.

Cheers,

Martin
