I have a Patrol 4.2 towing 18'6" Windsor Escape poptop. To make the whole unit level, I was wondering if it was OK to change the independent suspension from spring under to spring over - will give and extra 50mm and will match towbar height better.

Also want to increase water storage by adding extra tanks. What would be better - stainless and no guard or plastic plus guard?

Is it single axle or tandem.
Doe it have beam axles or truly independant as in
trailing arms or what.
Hard to give an answer if you dont really know the question.

Íf its single axle and beam axle it can be done but entails altering brakes and length of brake lines etc. Not quite as simple as turning the axle over.
Probably need a blue plate to make it legal also.
Would probably be easier to lower the towbar as in a WDH which will level it up as well.

Sorry, in my haste and memory leaks, forgot this vital bit of information.

It is a tandem axle with independant suspension (A frame with leaf springs).

It is an dirt-road/off road - Gary Kratzman used one to tour the Kimberleys a few years ago. I'm not worried about catching the wind, as it sits nicely in behind the canopy on the back of my patrol

Hi I had the same problem with my Jayco Eagle behind the Pajero. I just got a longer ( down) tange made at the towbar place @ Salsbury, I think it was only about $35.00 .
Now sits level , also the 6x4 was at the same angle and thats Ok too.
Underslinging the axle can tend to make the van a bit top heavy. and also catch the wind more ,
Cheers Des.

I changed the axles from on top of the springs to under the springs to raise the van by about 55-60mm and did not make 1 ounce difference the towing and made it better through gutters etc 24f jayco

Friend had this mod done and was very happy with the results until he came to erect his full annex, which didn't seem to reach the ground. Something to keep in mind.
