We have a 20 yo Windsor 16' pop top and last holiday the interior light filled with water. Plenty of previous patching but wondering what suggestions these wonderful gurus here can give. I suggested getting a new roof and the DH almost had a seizure. The interior is like new and its garraged all the time so I don't want to part with the old girl just yet

Haven't got to stage 2 - getting a price

hi there didiaust
a few years back i had the same problem with my also a but that doesn't matter i also looked into putting a new roof on it doing the work myself having worked in the caravan building industry for 14 years
any way what i settled for was to clean the roof the best i could then replaced the silicon scraping off the old and replacing it with new naturally only on the top of the van after doing this i used steel wool to buff up the allumimum washed it clean let it dry and i went to bias boating and got hold of some two pack exterior boat paint mixed it up using a small paint roller i rolled paint over the roof letting one coat dry then applying another until i had none left
took me a few days but i can tell you i had the van for another 3 years without another problem oh and yes i told the guy that finally ended up buying it off me do do the same if it happened again
hope this helps .................... len

didi,
Why make more work for yourself?
spend $20 on a tarp and tie it on if it looks like rain.

Thanks fellas
Len your just down the road from us - we are at Bel Nth. I will show your reply to the master of inertia when he comes
home . I am not sure how much he has spent at Bunnings on products but the marine place might be getting a visit.
Ian - there is no way he will consider the tarp- we got away from tarps when we gave up the tent. I suggested it too but if llooks could kill - I'de be pushing up daisys now

I'd be going for the new roof and then you will probably get another 20 years out of the van if it is as good a condition as you say.
Of course you could always divide to cost of the new roof by 20 and see what the annual cost it....
Money
well spent IMO.
