Another Inverter Question

what would be the ideal size wire (to avoid to much volt drop) should I use from the battery in the Van to the Inverter which is situated about 8ft away

that depends on the current you intend to run over the cable.
I use 32 square mm for my 1800W inverter drawing 180amp peak.
for a 500W I would use 16sqmm.

You can easily work it out yourself. Look under the heading "How to Choose the Right Cable" in this link - just remember, if you are using a wire earth and not a chassis earth then double your length for calculating.

Hi Cobber

Assuming a total distance of 4.8 metres (including earth return) drawing 30 amps and using 4mm diameter wire (12.57 square mm cross section) would yield you a voltage drop of approximately 0.19 volts. Dont forget to use a 50 amp andersen plug or similar for your connection.

Goodto compare statistics.
I did 8FT at 28A with 8GGE and came up with 0.289V drop which is just acceptable assuming a high frequency inverter.
The 8Ft although single length allows double run calcs.
