Hi all,
I am looking for a reputable diesel specialist who can tune and breathe a bit of life into my '02 Patrol that runs a 4.2 turbo diesel with Dgas fumigation. I don't think it is running as
well as it could be and although no expert, I reckon its noisier under the bonnet than it should be. Nissan recently did the valve clearances at an extreme cost and it sounded better for a day or two. The gas made a noticeable difference, power wise, but I think a full service inc injectors and pump timing etc... will help. I am also hoping to slightly tweak the turbo boost for a bit more performance. Not sure what can be gained from the old 4.2 but I am sure it could be better than it currently is. Its has less than 100k kms on the clock. Would also like to hear from other patrol drivers of power outputs..
I am in
Melbourne and I am planning to travel northish toward
Cooma, Queanbeyan and Berrima in the near future. My plan was to spend a night in Berrima having searched the WWW and reading many ads and other paraphernalia stating I may be pleased by visiting the area, however, reading deeper between the lines of different forums, Berrima may not be the place to visit anymore and I may be just as happy visiting the area of
Cooma (now Fyshwick) or Queanbeyan.
Further on that, some info suggests
Cooma ain't what it used to be either.
Can members' provide their personal experiences (without breaking any laws) if I should consider travelling to one place more than another OR do I need not travel at all, living in
Melbourne, maybe what I seek is under my nose?
I have searched the
forum without much success.
Thanks guys/gals :)

Berrima is a lovely place to vistit but as an overnighter I reckon you would quickly run out of things and as for the servicing, I know others like them but I wouldnt let the berrima crew work on anything more technical than a billy cart.
Cooma is big in comparison to Berrima and the
cooma diesel mob has a really good rep from all reports. Not done much around queanbeyan but I did stay once not long ago right across the river from the RSL and can recommend the meals there.

Thanks for your input, Berrima was my 1st choice but I think it may have been more hype than fact, I could be wrong, I am leaning toward
Cooma now, but I just found some recent info that suggests what made
Cooma good has now moved to Queanbeyan. Wasted so much money with Nissan, I need to get this right. Thanks again..

Hi
Wilson,
I agree 100% with howesy about the Berrima guys, Had nothing but trouble with car after they worked on it. Don't know much about the others so can't comment.
Cheers Dave...

Cooma Diesel service in
Canberra are not worth trying - but they will happily take your money - Queanbeyan Diesel Service are very service orientated and know what they are doing.

I used to live in
Cooma.
Cooma Diesel Service had a bloke there at the time, named
Lawrence Fraser. He moved to Queanbeyan Diesel Service and took all the expertise with him.
That was 10 years ago.
If you can track down where he now works, that is where I would suggest you take your rig. He knows his diesels!!!

G'Day,
Have used Queanbeyan Diesel a couple of times and recommend them highly. Great service and workmanship. Had similar work done to what you have described and was very happy with the results.
Cheers,
Dave

Wilson,
Just to add to the confusion, have you considered Turboglide at Russelvale in Woollongong.
I have had a positive experience with them, but it would be best to
check it out for yourself.
Cheers,
Cruiser

Thanks, Have seen some positive threads on Turboglide and they look ok, but just starting to get a little too far from
Melbourne. Had convinced the boss that Berrima was a nice place to visit and I am sure Woolongong is too, but Q/beyan is much closer. I appreciate the info though.
Cheers

These guys have always been good to me:

PHONE: +61 3 9547 1525
ADDRESS: 131 - 135 Westall Road, Clayton South, Victoria, Australia 3169
Even if you just drop in for a chat first and see what they think, at least you are not turning up without checking a place out first.
They rebuilt fuel pump that was leaking, did valve clearances and replaced cam belt/tensioner, etc and dyno tuned, been running sweet ever since - 70,000km later. I went to the other place in the Southern Highlands and would put my hard earned elsewhere, but that is just my opinion of course.
Cheers,
Wazza.
