Hi All,

i'm off to Stockton again this weekend in the Jeep Wrangler.

I was wondering is it considered dangerous to have the roof down on the Jeep whist on the sand at Stockton in case we rolled it? I'd of thought the roll bars would be effective on hard ground but on sand would they be effective?

Also, whats the best fish to angle for from the surf and whats the best bait to use? any decent Bait shops nearby?

A couple of hours either side of high tide is the time I favour.

I would be more worried about it bursting into flames - Jeeps have a habit of doing that up there.

Any car is dangerous if you Roll it! Keep it on the wheels wear your seat belt and take the top down. Always did on my Suzuki, never thought that was dangerous! Drive carefully and have fun. Cheers Tony.

Hi Benje,

"Best" is a subjective term, if you want cat food then Australian Salmon are the go, if you want bait then Tailor it is.

If you want people food then Flathead, Bream and Whiting are your best bets.

Bait?

Any of the local servo's will sell you a packet of frozen beach worms. The above three human food species love them.

As to the top of the Jeep, if your girlfriend is young and good looking definitely top off and windows down.

If she's not or your an ugly bloke on your own roof on and tinted windows.

Hence the reason I have a Troopy with tinted windows.

Hope that helps,

Geoff

Hi Geoff. Does the 'top off' apply to the girlfriend or the Wrangler? You were (deliberatley?) ambiguous.

keep your max speed to the sign posted 40 ( 20 near people) approach each hill with caution and drive straight down and not on an angle - do not brake when driving down large dunes but select a low gear and drive down ( keeping the wheels turning to prevent build up of sand in front of them)

do all this and you will have very little chance of turning over

I dont think it will make much difference.
The roll bars will sink into the sand a little but they wont let vehicle crush you.
Dune buggies have been doing it that way for years.
The factory roll bars will only help in a slow rollover in any situation.

I would leave the roof on for some shade. Its a long day with no shade.
