Hi all,
I have an 01 non intercooled 4.2 turbo diesel Patrol. Can those with similiar model please give me an indication of how long it takes for their vehicle to reach full oil pressure upon 1st starting.
I am having delays of about 6 seconds until the oil light goes out and am wondering if I have a problem. Nissan have no real opinion and state "it should be ok". It was last (and I mean LAST) serviced at Nissan and they put in their "specially" formulated Nissan brand diesel oil and the Nissan specific oil filters.
Thanx

G'day
It takes around 4 seconds for the oil light to go out on my 01 4.2td at start up.
The first couple of years of the cars life the oil light went out straight away on start up.
Then started doing the 4 second delay thing , it happens with Nissan filters or Ryco filters.
I believe the non return valve on later models are built into the engine , so perhaps current filters no longer have a non return valve , thus causing the oil pressure delay , I don't really know , just a thought.
I use
Caltex Super RX oil ..
Cheers Pete ..

Ah yes, good point, I now remember reading about a problem like this many years ago on an oil filter comparo. I shall try different filters. Cheers.

I had the same problem with my GUIV TD42Ti. When I complained to Nissan I was told it was normal, as I was walking out a mechanic who over heard told me not to use Nissan filters. When I asked why he explained that they have problems with the anti drain back valve in them. He also said to use a good brand of filter like Donaldson or Fleetguard. During this time I was and still are using Shell Rimula X 15w/40
I'm currently running Donaldson filters and have had no problems.

Yeh, I've used different filters, and some brands drain back, taking a while to come up to pressure. But the Nissan ones I've used seem to give full pressure pretty quickly.
