Hi Carl
The wife and I are also heading off in May, from the Sunshine Coast. The plan was to do an east west Simpson crossing then south and easterly back home. Hopefully the flood waters have dried up by then. If not we will have to change plans and travel roughly your path, but do a double Simpson crossing.
If you have time or if you have been to Carnarvon gorge before, think about checking out other parts of the Carnarvon area such as Salvator Rosa and Ka Ka Mundi, although they are a lot more remote than the main gorge section.
Enjoy your holiday

Maybe you'll need to go west to east then turn back again and go west - in through Dalhousie, Mt Dare and back out that same way.

Hi Ruth
Yes that what I think we will end up doing but will keep an eye on your reports, which I would like to thank you for, to see what happens. We are always well prepared but not much into planning, so not sure whether to go back the way we came or head north or even Hay River track.
