Hi all,
As the topic says, I have some bolts that I've used to attach recovery points onto my front bar. They are steel, so have already got a slight
orange tinge. What should I paint (or ideally spray) them with to stop this now and in the future?
Hammerite?
Something else?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
If you are really keen, you can put the bolts in the oven. After heating them up, coat them in lanolin and let them cool down. Wipe off excess. ( use pure lanolin not a spray mixture )
I have been told that the lanolin penetrates a couple of microns into the metal - I know it is a brilliant rust inhibitor. We used this system on the exposed moving parts of our fishing reels that were in constant contact with salt water.

2nd that.
I now use lanolin grease on every bolt for rust and easy removal.

You already have a bit of rust so another way to go is to paint on some rust converter and then finish with paint.
I use lanolin based spray to stop cast iron from rusting but it needs regular applications.
