Hi All. Planning an April Trip to the Alps. Is the Caledonia River Track and /or Dingo Hill Track open or passable. Spoke to a parks officer at Heyfeild who stated that it is and will be closed, but I am getting conflicting reports. I will be accessing the area from the Butcher country track if possible.

G'day George,

Two weeks ago we came from Howitt to Dingo Hill via the Butcher Country Track. We only went on the bottom 'shared' section of the Caledonia Track. Everything was passable and open.

I'm not sure why the Caledonia Track would be closed prior to the seasonal closure in June - unless they plan on grading etc.

You could always use the Butcher Country Track - just hardly any camping spots compared to the Caledonia Track.

I was down there over Xmas, the start of the Caledonia track (Butcher Track end) was very rough, lots of large river rocks (without the river) but was doable in the 4Runner with 2" lift

Did Butcher Country at Christmas, Caledonia track has a bridge out and has been closed. Should be open after the winter closure.

We travelled this area last weekend 28/29 March 2009
TAMBORITHA RD, DINGO HILL TRACK CALEDONIA TRACK
BUTCHER COUNTRY LINK TRACK BUTCHER COUNTRY TRACK HOWITT RD KING BILLY RD BLUFF TRACK / BROCKS RD BLUFF LINK BROCKS RD
Great and enjoyable

Caledonia was blocked at one end where we switched to Butcher Country Link Track. It was fine all the way from Licola to Sheepyard Flats.

Rough in parts, switchbacks were fine for landcruiser, Navara had some problems with them but ok. If travelling suggest you have a couple of cars as some areas are very rough. Lot of rock in areas. Make sure you check your wheel nut tensions.
