Gday all we contacted you guys,a while back, re a sat phone 9500 motorola, that we own, and how to dodge telstras grip and thankfully some of you replied with some excellent options which we have followed through on.With 3 weeks to go to our trip, we have taken up the $10 per month telstra deal to get the sim card,we have it "international roamed" and have placed it with sticky tape back into the phone the correct way. I then hold down the 0 button to get a + sign then dial the number prefixing it with 61 then the area code minus the prefixed 0 then our phone number to see if it works but to this point no luck. Are we doing something wrong or have telstra cottoned on since we first asked?
Would appreciate any feedback from our wise audience !
Cheers
Example of the number we dial if I havent made it clear
Turn phone on
It gets a signal then registers
Then I keep my finger on 0 until i get the +
Then dial 617then our phone number
It then tells us "emergency calls only"
then "check card"
Then i scratch my head and wave my fist at Telstra

Is it a prepaid $10 card or a $10 plan It wont work with a prepaid Telstra sim card.
It may be the card is not fitting properly
Did it come on a credit card sized plastic bit If so you should have just put the whole thing in your phone.
You dont use + unless you are calling a cell phone internationally
Use it as you would your home phone so dial 0617********
or 07**************

If the phone says "REGISTERED" then the SIMcrad has been validated.

Also you have to make sure that Telstra have not barred the account that belongs to your $10 card from making 1900 calls. That will stop you making calls on the Sat network.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

Yep like someone else suggested, just dial numbers normally. i do the same, tape the telstra sim back in the large card outer, jam it in the 9500 and were away. nothing fancy.

From memory, if your children are on Telstra "MY Hour" they should be able to call you from Free during their "my Hour". Do a test/chech to confirm that it works "For Free".

Thanks to everyone who has replied - it was the $10 plan and it seems to work fine now. All that is left is to hit the road heading off in 3 weeks with 4 year old for 12 months. Can't wait. Happy travelling to everyone.

Steve & Mary,

Am having the same problem, getting the message 'insert card'. What did you have to do to fix it?
