I thought I'd start a new topic on this one.

Any reports on the cheaper air compressors
that you can get on ebay and from marlows/supercheapauto

specs
Fast Inflation(Approx 3min to inflate a 265/75R16 tyre from 15 to 32psi)
3m Power Lead. 8m Air Hose
Power Direct Drive Oil-Less Motor
Thermal Overload Protection
Direct to Battery Clamps for Better Performance
100 PSi / 689 Kpa Maximum Pressure
Displacement: 35 Lpm

all p ~$100 delivered to perth
(no warranty)

same model from supercheap with 40Lpm & 160psi max
for $149 1 yr warranty

I know these prob won't be able to do 3 4wds in a row
but that's not I want it for.
A dozen beach trips a year if I'm lucky and at the most maybe another
mates if they don't carry a compressor.

With 1 year warranty, If it's no good get the money back easy!

any reports would be great

Hiya dogart,

For years I used those $24 KMart type compressors. Didn't do much beach driving but quite a bit out in the desert. The compressors were slow and ran hot and lasted about 1-2 years. On really big trips I would carry a spare compressor. They did the job but were painfully slow

Last year I bought a Bluetongue 3 compressor after much procrasternation for $495. It will probably last my lifetime. It is an excellent compressor and it is something I should have bought a long time ago.

You pay peanuts...most likely you get monkeys.

Cheers,

Willie

Was lucky enough to pick up the supercheap one for $97 in a sale recently. It pumped up a 31 x 10.5 x 15 tyre in about 5 minutes from dead flat. That's all I've used it for but I reckon from what you say you're going to do, it's all you need.
Cheers, Mark.

I've had a few of these, my $19.99 really slow one still works, but the two "Truck Air" ones packed up, then my next $90.00 one stuffed up on me in the middle of nowhere, I had to take it to bits and fiddle with the brushes to get it going again, when I got home I bought an ARB. If I'd bought one of these in the first place it would have been cheaper....

Cheers

ps I guess what I'm saying is, ditto the peanuts/monkeys comment!

I bought an ARB, first works well, then bought a cheapy as a spare(mega grunter)for $89. Now I use the cheapy all the time as I found it to be faster than the ARB.

ave

what's the 4wd market like over there in SA.
I'm sure it'd be the same as here in the west with alot of 4wd's
having a fair bit of beach use.

In the market soon, and to get one over here from SA for ~$400
it may be an option.
Or even drive it back!
