Hi,

Does anyone have a sucessful method of mounting a bike rack on the rear bar of a Paramount 23' van? It has the spare wheel mounted on it.
I have tried a couple of different ones but all have problems clearing the spare. I have 2 bikes I wish to carry.

Pictures would be great.

cheap way out - well done. what stops it from wanting to topple over at the top as i can see the straps at bottom of tyres and up to frame of bike. with all the bouncing around a van does i thought it could move backwards away from van without any means of securing it? maybe a side on photo will answer all?? well done again, top job

There are straps over and through each wheel. I also have a strap from the spare tyre to the bike which stops it moving forward.

Thanks Dunco, Looks good... I will be moving the van out tomorrow for some palm removals so will take a good look and see if I can use that type of mounting.

There is one you can get that mounts around the Spare tyre. Can't remember it's name but I did the research a year or so ago.

Ended up putting mine on the draw bar. Bit of a pain but with the right adjustments you can leave em there and still open your boot etc.

Just an addition to the Bike rack thing ---

Daughter got policed and fined for having an empty bike rack on her car !!

Thats a Victorian Law apparently - beware !!

Gooday,
We have a 21Ft caravan with a decent solidly mounted Bumper Bar and when they built it got a Receiver socket welded to it, slip rack into that, have carried bike for approx 20,000Km and not a sign of a problem, beware of extra weight if your spare is already mounted there. Have been accross through the centre with ours.

Only problem you get lots of dust back there, have zip on vinyl cover for mine, helps.
Cheers ,
Boroma 604.
