As I mentioned last week we purchased a 1996 Ultimate Camper. We picked it up yesterday and registered it today. We have had a chance to set it up and we are very happy with it. For those that asked, it is number 9.

On a side note, we came across a Kimberley Kamper after we did the deal on the Ultimate. Originally we wanted the Kimberley so my wife made an offer on it. It is the Mariner model with a boat included. The offer was accepted so we now own two campers.

The thought was we would look at selling the Ultimate and keep the Kimberley. Problem now is we are both leaning towards liking the Ultimate more than the Kimberley. We are going to try them both before our trip in June to see which one we like better.

Cheers,
Topend.

I have a KK , but I also like the Ultimates !!!
Both have good points, and how you work out which one suits you better is going to be hard..
Best of luck !!

Talk about spoilt for choice. Both nice units.

Good luck deciding which one suits more.

I was wondering if you had a chance to use any of your camper trailers and what were your final impressions of the two?

We went camping over Easter. We towed the Ultimate and our friends towed the Kimberley. We made the following observations:

The Ultimate is much better to tow, the Kimberley has too much wieght on the tow bar, almost as much as my 3000kg boat. Everything heavy is mounted forward of the axle, silly idea.
The Ultimate has a larger bed and is higher off the ground.
The Ultimate is very open inside and cooler.
We did all the cooking and kitchen choirs on the Kimberley as being outside is more convenient.
We could take the boat on the Kimberley.

My verdict, the Ultimate is my preference but is more suited to southern cooler weather. The Kimberley is the logical choice for where we live and tour in the tropics due to the outside kitchen and boat carrier.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply Top End,

We recently purchased a second hand ultimate and took it away at easter. It is a big change for our family (two girls 12 & 14) after tenting for the last five years.

Last weekend we went to the camping show at rosehill and made further comparisons of camper trailers and we walked away happy with our choice for our family.

The good points for us was that the trailer can sleep the four of us comfortably for 1 night stays with minimum setup effort, the trailer has a small footprint for confined campsites (and can be hung over bollards - which we had to do in Wadbilliga NP) and we have an outside cooking setup already (from tenting). We will have to get used to difficult access at lunchtime, 3 way fridge (although we have an engel in 4WD) and meeting another vehicle on 1 lane tracks!

We will be taking the ultimate to the Kimberley in July...

We are going to the Kimberleys in June, our second time there. The highlight of our last Kimberleys trip was Cape Leveque so we will be spending my 40th birthday there this time.
