Has anyone stayed at this
camping site recently?
I cannot find much about it and was wondering if anyone could advise on its suitability for a couple of nights for a group of 3 vans.
Thanks.
Peter

You would not have a worry getting in there, and it is a great
camping area.
20 odd K's from
Broken Hill.

Yes Peter,
Stayed there on our road trip, showers cost to use. Otherwise plenty of areas to
camp.
Be warned!!
While we were there a group of 4WDers set up near the large main buildings, not told by the caretaker that a youth group was inbound, lots of noise by the afore mentioned youth group ... at two in the morning. Make sure you ask if the building will be used. We didn't hear a thing, way over on the other side of the
park.
Daydream mine is a must visit as is seeing sunset over the Mundi Mundi plains and if you are a Mad Max fan ... a pic by the interceptor.
Enjoy your trip.
Cheers,
Wayne & Sally.

G'day Steve,
Stayed for the night on the 26th of September 2008. Can't tell you when they started charging for showers, only that we didn't pay for or use the
park facilities.
Cheers,
Wayne.

I think it must be a popular spot with local groups. We have looked at it a couple of times and driven straight out again due to lots of noisy people around the place. It's probably OK away from weekends and school holidays. Three vans might be a bit tricky but a phone call would decide. Plenty of fireplaces that seem popular with campers.

Why would 3 vans be tricky? The place is huge!
We have stayed there several times, never a problem with noise, around $14.00 a night for 2 includes the showers.
We would stay there everytime we were in the area in preference to
Broken Hill, as it is much more like true
camping than a crowded caravan
park.

Shaker,
Are you sure that three vans could fit together on power? There is plenty of open space in the
camping area.

Yes I am sure, there are 2 seperate areas with power, plus I am sure that they would survive without power too.

Peter,
As
Silverton is outside the City of
Broken Hill, and is in the Unincorporated Area of N.S.W. the
Tourist Information Centre of
Broken Hill tends not to advertise it, or so I'm told.
In terms of a place to stay it beats anything else around
Broken Hill and it a nice, quiet place to have a few days off.
Other people have mentioned costs etc. but direct from Arthur the Manager's mouth just now, here are the latest:
$9.00 per night per person.
$20.00 per night per family (2 adults 2 kids)
Power $5.00 per day on top of the aforesaid
36 sites with power.
Showers are included.
For further information call Arthur on 08-80885307.
The
Silverton Pub is a short walk away. There is a cafe a slightly longer walk away where you can get a decent feed.
Arthur tells me that he sells soft drinks & ,and his speciality at present is
Quandong flavoured ice cream.
Just as an aside, this
park has considerable historical significance in so far as
Broken Hill is concerned. At one time all of the unionists here had a couple of bob taken from their pay which went towards the upkeep. You can see this around the
park, though some things are a bit run down, it's still pretty good.
The
park is run as a trust and they need all of the fiscal help they can get. The NSW Govt. donates a couple of thousand each year, but that's all.
It's a great place to bring kids.
Dick

Thanks all for your informative responses and other comments they have raised.
Providing we can get in (we will not have specific plans until close to arrival time) this
camp is firmly on our agenda.
Cheers.

hi, we stayed there last November for a 11 days, the cost mentioned above is what we were told until we got there and was then told the price is $25 per night, and there is no way there are 35 powered sites, that was our biggest shock, as it was hot we wanted a powered site with some trees nearby to get some shade, the caretaker told us that the powered sites were near the toilet/ shower block, but the problem is that were he said to go there was no afternoon shade unless we had a powerlead that was about 50 metres long, so there was only one spot we could go were we could have shade and power and that was way out the back, which ment that yes it was very quite but we had a nice LONG walk to the showerblock (there were
toilets nearby, not too nice and dirty but they were there). the ground is red dirt with a couple of grass spots (not for
camping), there's no sullage and no taps close enough to connect to the van, and there is no way you would get 3 vans together if you wanted power, without power heaps of
places. put it this way after stopping there is when we made our minds up that from now on we go and look around the caravan
park before checking in. also we spent a lot more on fuel as we kept on driving in to
Broken Hill to do the tourist bit so the Ks added up, (it's a very dippy road so not for the speed freaks).
yes totally agree that a must see is
Daydream Mine one of the top
places we went to the whole trip.
good luck from chris.
